Choosing languages
The languages you're learning
Section titled “The languages you're learning”The toolbar popup shows a chip for every language you have words in, named in that language (Русский, العربية, 日本語). Select a chip to show or hide that language on pages.
- All of them: when several languages have a word for the same thing, the page takes turns (one "thanks" becomes спасибо, the next 谢谢). Point at one to see the others.
- Just one: select Focus on the language (or press F on its chip). Stop ends it.
- Some: hide the ones you want to rest. Show all brings everything back.
A hidden language stays hidden until you show it again. A language you've just started always shows.
The languages you read
Section titled “The languages you read”Kotiko swaps words only on pages in the languages you read, and keeps meanings in them. To change them, open Settings, Languages you read in. You can have up to four. When you visit a page in a language that isn't yours, the toolbar popup offers I read … too.
Kotiko's buttons and messages follow your browser's language where Kotiko has a translation. Settings, Kotiko's language changes it; your words don't change.
How a word is said
Section titled “How a word is said”A word's card shows how it's said, written the way a reader of your language would spell the sounds. For readers of English this is complete. For readers of Spanish it's in beta: the spelling rules haven't been checked yet by native readers from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and the Southern Cone, so a respelling may look odd where you live. If one does, tell us with the word and how you'd write it.
